Testimonials

"Skin Type Solutions really helped me formulate a positive cleaning regimen and the results have been wonderful. I have had less problems with my extremely sensitive skin than ever before. I highly recommend!" - Cherisse, Skin Type Solutions Client

"In my teens and twenties I never paid much attention to my skin, partly because I didn't have any major problems and partly because I wasn't very interested in beauty, fashion magazines etc.

But, at 34 I started looking at my skin more closely, and, much to my dismay, I realized that I was beginning to show the signs of ageing; for the first time I noticed that I had crowsfeet, smile lines and age spots.

I decided I probably should start taking a little better care of my skin, but I didn't really know "what" I should be doing. Since it's nearly impossible to get a dermatologist to spend any serious time with you, I decided to try Skin Type Solutions instead and I think it was a good choice." - Lisa, Skin Type Solutions Client
What are some of the most common benefits of a chemical peel?

A chemical peel can restore a more youthful appearance to wrinkled, unevenly pigmented, sun-damaged, or blotchy skin. However, a peel cannot reverse the aging process or completely remove deep scars although it may help reduce the appearance of scars. Wrinkled skin that is loose and sagging may also require a face-lift, laser resurfacing treatment, or combination of procedures for best results.
How is a chemical peel performed?

All chemical peels involve applying a chemical solution to remove the outer layers of skin so that a smoother, more evenly pigmented, glowing layer of skin can appear. There are three basic categories of chemical peels an spahaven offers light peels as these are the least invasive.

Light peels: Alphahydroxy acids (AHAs), Light or “lunch hour” peels are the mildest of the chemical peels. These peels include glycolic, lactic, and fruit acid peels (AHA). They slough off only the outer layers of the skin to smooth out fine wrinkles and/or rough, dry skin. AHA lift peels may also be used to improve the texture of sun-damaged skin, balance out skin pigmentation, or diminish some types of acne scars. These peels are often repeated to achieve the desired results.

The application of AHA lift peels are relatively fast and simple. The client may experience a slight tingling when the solution is applied.

The aesthetican will begin by thoroughly cleansing the area to be treated. Next, he/she will apply the AHA solution, wait up to 15 minutes, and then remove it. After the procedure, no ointments or salves will be necessary to cover the treated area. Monthly or weekly repetition is common.

How long does it take?

The treatment usually takes about 10 to 15 minutes, but the aesthetican may vary the concentration of the chemical solution or the length of time of the treatment.

What can I expect after a chemical peel?

Alphahydroxy acids (AHAs) AHA peels cause the outer skin to fall away, revealing fresh new skin. Clients are usually able to engage in normal public activities the day after an AHA peel.

After any peel, it is critically important that the skin be protected from the sun. Ask your aesthetican  to recommend a sun block with both UVA and UVB protection, and apply it daily. We usually recommend the pharmaceutical grade range of heliocare sunprotection which we also retail at our location.

Alphahydroxy acids (AHAs)
Uses:
·Smooths rough, dry skin
·Improves texture of sun-damaged skin
·Aids in control of acne
Considerations:
·A series of peels may be needed
·As with most peel treatments, sunblock use is recommended

After Your Treatment

After an AHA peel, it is common to experience some temporary flaking or scaling, redness and dryness of the skin. However, these conditions will disappear as the skin adjusts to treatment.

Getting Back to Normal

With an AHA peel, the temporary redness, flaking and dryness that you experience will not prevent you from working or engaging in your normal activities. A fresher and improved skin texture will result with continued AHA treatments. Remember, protecting your skin from the sun is also important following these mild acid peels. Your aesthetician will recommend a sunblock with adequate UVA and UVB protection for you to use every day.

Your New Look

Improvements from AHA peels may be very subtle at first. You may detect a healthier glow to your skin. With continued treatments, you will notice a general improvement in the texture of your skin.
